Club Philosophies
Sportsmanship
Our club believes strongly in sportsmanship on and off the water. Our rowers are expected to act in good faith and sportsmanship toward their fellow rowers and fellow competitors regardless of outcomes.
Competitiveness
Our club is a competitive one, though not overly so. Our rowers will compete internally for positions, and will attend regattas where our club can compete effectively based on size and ability. Our coaches are expected to push our rowers to expand their abilities, but not at the expense of the rowers’ health, academics, or in any way detrimental to the club.
Academics
Our club recognizes that our rowers’ primary responsibility is to their academics. To that end, all rowers must maintain grades that would allow them to participate in any district recognized sport. Failure to maintain grades by any rower will result in suspension of their rowing privileges until such time as their grades improve.
Practices
Practices are mandatory and athletes are expected to attend.
Costs
As a club sport, the Allderdice rowing team does not receive money from the Pittsburgh Public Schools. There are fees to participate in the sport which the families are expected to pay at the beginning of each season. See the costs page. We do maintain a scholarship fund to help offset the cost for those who would otherwise be unable to participate. Please contact allderdicerowing@gmail.com with any questions.
